Early Childhood

At Clariden, our Early Childhood program focuses on creating an environment that encompasses the whole child. For many very young children, these early years are their first experience in a school setting. We strive to create a nurturing and safe environment for them as we encourage growth in all areas of development: cognitive, social/emotional, language/communication, and physical. To do this, we provide play-based learning that is authentic and intentional so children can develop in these areas in developmentally appropriate ways. Our STEAM based, engaging PBL curriculum does just this; play is a child’s work.

Our small class sizes allow for attention in all developmental areas, as well as time to be inclusive of varying levels of development. This gives our youngest students time and space to grow and develop at their own pace, along with time for our educators to explore each child’s dynamic background and culture. Relationship building is at the heart of our program, which allows our very young students to develop positive peer and adult interactions from the beginning.

Our educators open the door to the path to literacy, mathematics, and scientific discovery as they learn through play. Keeping a child’s learning rooted in methods that provide real, relevant, and meaningful experiences allows our youngest learners to explore early-emergent and emergent literacy tasks in authentic and intentional ways. Students begin to explore literacy through the use of systematic phonics and real-life reading and writing experiences within our early childhood program. A foundational, hands-on structure to mathematics and science sets up our youngest minds for more collaborative and accelerated thinking in their early childhood years.
